During the break between boards and third year starting, we decided to head to Utah for a week to spend time with family. Well, we can't seem to fly anywhere without something happening. This trip was no exception. We scheduled a 6:30 am flight so we could get into Utah at a reasonable hour. Just as we were getting ready to leave for the airport, Kurt got a strange call from Delta about our flight. The call was confusing, saying our flight was delayed until 11 am, but we would still be arriving at our connecting airport at 8 am. We decided to head to the airport anyway so we could be there and not miss our flight.
When we got to the airport we found out our plane had a cracked windshield and needed to be repaired. Our flight ended up being 8 hours delayed. So we spent an extra 8 hours at the airport, only a ten minute drive from our house.
It wasn't all bad. There was another little girl Naomi's age on the same flight and they ended up being buds by the end of it. It sure made things easier! I must say that both our girls did very well through all our delay.
As you can imagine, we missed our connecting flight (and here we thought 3 hours was way too long of a layover!), but they couldn't get us on another flight until 9:45 pm (another 5 hour wait at that point). While we waited for our flight I heard rumors of bad weather. My mother-in-law checked the weather for us. The forecast was severe winds, large hail, and chance of a tornado! So as the storm got closer, the airport closed down. I heard the hail at the window and suddenly a voice came over the intercom telling us to get away from the windows and into the bathrooms. At this point there was zero visibility outside. Some nice ladies helped us pack up our stuff and head into the bathrooms. Fortunately there was no tornado and the storm passed quickly. Our flight was only delayed half an hour and we were on our way. We finally arrived in Utah just before 1 am (3 am NY time). Whew.

Wow! You must be a better person than me. After being delayed for about 13 hrs plus tornado watch I would not be telling this story as nicely as you just did. Glad you made it to Utah, sorry we missed you!
Oh you poor guys! I had no idea that had happened until Tyler came home from picking you up. What a mess! Maybe since you've had your fair share of disaster flights, you will start to have better ones!
I hate flying! I just assume delays, maintenance problems and crew arriving late now. If it's not one thing it's another!
